NAPRAPATHY (Nuh-prah-pa-thee)"We Treat Aches and Pains without Drugs"TM
WHAT IS NAPRAPATHY? Naprapathy is a branch of medicine, (manual medicine) that focuses on the evaluation and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. Doctors of Naprapathy are connective tissue specialists.
WHAT IS CONNECTIVE TISSUE? Connective tissue is found throughout the human body. A few structural examples include: ligaments, which connect bone to bone, tendons, which connect muscle to bone, fascia, which runs in-between all layers of muscle and covers boney structures, cartilage and discs. Your body is a complex network of connective tissues. The body is nourished via neurovascular bundles (nerve, lymph, and blood vessels). These bundles move throughout the body to bring nourishment and remove cellular waste. When connective tissues are constricted (we make the analogy of someone putting their foot on a garden hose and slowing the flow of water) it diminishes nerve, lymph and blood flow to and drainage away from all muscles, organs, and glands throughout the body. This stress, results in aches and pains. As Naprapaths, we are trained to "open the flow" and treat constricted connective tissue in an effort to decrease pain and inflammation and increase range of motion and flexibility. Some cause are: Stress, poor sleeping position, faulty posture, improper biomechanics and absence of ergonomics. Imbalances can also occur suddenly due to trauma, such as: Motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries and work related injuries.
EVALUATION The conditions and disorders of connective tissue and the musculoskeletal system are evaluated in various ways: Detailed medical history - Performance of standard orthopedic and neurologic examinations - Anatomical and topographical evaluations - Muscle and range of motion testing. Most importantly, Naprapaths are connective tissue specialists who detect tissue imbalances and structural imbalances in the body using the most sensitive instrument in the world: their HANDS! Doctors of Naprapathy are connective tissue specialists. Connective tissue is found throughout the human body. A few structural examples include: ligaments, tendons, fascia, cartilage, and spinal discs. Your body is a complex network of connective tissue which can become imbalanced, too tight in some areas (contracted) and too loose in others (lax). These imbalances often result in pain. You may be totally unaware that you have a comprehensive musculoskeletal imbalance until a build up of signs and symptom reaches an unbearable level of pain and loss of function. This non-invasive, hands on treatment is a compliment to traditional medicine.. Common conditions treated
TREATMENT: A treatment consists of Naprapathic manipulative techniques, adjunctive treatments and nutritional counseling.
NAPRAPATHIC TECHNIQUES: We gently manipulate the vertebrae to stretch and attached contracted connective tissue, which may be irritating the nerves as they exit the spinal column.
ADJUCTIVE THERAPIES: Physiological therapeutics and adjunctive therapies may be recommended and administered. These may include:
NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING: In addition to encouraging patients to achieve optimal daily water intake, Naprapaths examine diet and the ability to assimilate nutrients in order to maximize health.
